there are three "families" of instruments :

 

knockers - made of wood, producing an ongoing, repetitive knocking sound.

 

tube bells - aluminum made bells.

when given a short tilt can produce one single tone, similar to the sound of a vibraphone. 

 

shakers and rattles - made of different 

materials.
